Tsumami Zaiku Brooch White – Crane Japanese Silk Flower Pin
A silk crane brooch built in the tsumami technique — the Edo-period craft of folding small squares of silk one at a time with tweezers. Traditional kanzashi cranes are usually shown with wings flared wide and dramatic, but those forms catch on fabric, snag, and break. This piece reinterprets the motif as a crane folding its wings around something precious — quieter, sturdier, easier to wear day to day.
The body is habutae silk with glass accents and a thread of gold; the back is a plated-brass brooch pin. Cranes carry a long line of meaning in Japan — longevity, fidelity, careful protection — and this design leans into the protective reading rather than the showy one.
Made by Tsumami Kanzashi Ayano, the Matsudo workshop led by Ayano Fujii — a designated maker of Chiba Prefecture's traditional craft of Edo tsumami kanzashi.
