Tsumami Zaiku Hair Clip Purple – Kikyo Bellflower Japanese Silk Flower Clip
A silk kikyo (Chinese bellflower, 桔梗) hair clip, folded petal by petal in the centuries-old tsumami technique. Kikyo has been part of Japanese summer-to-autumn imagery for over a thousand years — it appears in classical poetry, family crests, and medicinal texts. Its root, kikyō-kon, has been used in traditional medicine to soothe coughs and ease throat conditions; the flower itself reads cool and quiet against late-summer heat.
This piece sits on a sturdy plated-brass hair clip rather than a brooch back, so it can be worn in updos, half-ups, or pinning a side of a kimono collar. The 70 mm length is generous enough to be the only ornament a hairstyle needs.
Made by Tsumami Kanzashi Ayano, the Matsudo workshop led by Ayano Fujii — a designated maker of Chiba Prefecture's traditional craft of Edo tsumami kanzashi.
