Tsumami Zaiku Brooch White & Gray – Snow Crystal Japanese Silk Pin
A snow-crystal (yuki no kesshō, 雪の結晶) brooch in silk, folded petal by petal in the centuries-old tsumami technique. The form is the classic six-fold snowflake — a shape that stands, across cultures, for purity, stillness, and a kind of clean new beginning. In Japanese seasonal imagery the snow crystal also calls back to the winter landscape paintings that prize quiet over color.
Each of the six arms is built from 10 mm squares of silk, folded individually with tweezers and set with careful attention to symmetry and angle. Rather than pure white, the piece is finished in a soft gray on a white ground — so it reads as an adult winter accent rather than a holiday novelty. Glass beads at the joints catch light the way ice catches sun.
Made by Tsumami Kanzashi Ayano, the Matsudo workshop led by Ayano Fujii — a designated maker of Chiba Prefecture's traditional craft of Edo tsumami kanzashi.
