Documented

We sat down with Ayano Fujii in her Matsudo workshop, where every petal is folded by hand.

Rikka (六花) was created in response to repeated customer requests for a "tsumami earring that moves." The flower is built with hishi-tsumami, the sharper, more angular variant of the technique, then mounted to a brass hoop so it swings gently with the wearer. The result is a piece that reads sharp and modern from a distance and reveals its handwork only up close: easy to wear with office attire, easy to wear with a kimono.

Made from habutae silk (a thin, soft Japanese silk also used in traditional kanzashi) over a wood bead core, the earring is almost weightless on the lobe. Available in pierced and clip-on versions, in four colorways: antique rose, cement, ceramic, and white.

Made by Tsumami Kanzashi Ayano, the Matsudo workshop led by Ayano Fujii, a designated maker of Chiba Prefecture's traditional craft of Edo tsumami kanzashi.

  • Material (flower): Silk (羽二重), wood bead core
  • Material (hoop): Plated brass
  • Flower diameter: 25 mm
  • Hoop diameter: 25 mm
  • Package size: 75 × 70 × H32 mm
  • Colors: Antique Rose, Cement, Ceramic, White
  • Options: Pierced or clip-on
  • Care: Avoid water and friction; store flat in the box
  • Origin: Matsudo, Chiba, Japan (handmade)
  • Maker: Tsumami Kanzashi Ayano (つまみかんざし彩野)
  • Lead time: within 1 month, made to order

Note: Because each piece is folded entirely by hand, no two are exactly alike. Slight individual differences in shape, petal angle, and color are natural to the craft.

A workwear-friendly tsumami earring with real movement: sharp geometry that quietly turns out to be silk.
