A 200 ml porcelain cup from Miyama's White Line series, decorated in kamahen gosu (窯変呉須) — a "reactive cobalt blue" pigment formulated to melt and flow during firing, so each cup ends with a one-of-a-kind drift of deep blue across the white body. The porcelain is a thin, glass-bearing hakuji that lets light through at the rim.
Miyama is a porcelain workshop in Mizunami, Gifu, working in the 1,300-year Mino-yaki tradition. The White Line series uses a deliberately reactive technique — the maker sets the firing conditions, the kiln finishes the picture. Variation between pieces is the technique, not a flaw.
