A silk narcissus (suisen, 水仙) brooch, folded petal by petal in the centuries-old tsumami technique. Narcissus blooms quietly while the cold still lingers, and across cultures it has come to stand for hope, renewal, and new beginnings. The flower has long held a place in Japanese winter painting and tea-room arrangements for the same reason.
This piece keeps the form simple — a small bright flower, white silk, a hint of yellow at the center — so it can sit on a coat lapel, a sweater, or a kimono haori without competing with what it's worn on. Made by Tsumami Kanzashi Ayano, the Matsudo workshop led by Ayano Fujii — a designated maker of Chiba Prefecture's traditional craft of Edo tsumami kanzashi.
