A silk sakura brooch, folded petal by petal in the centuries-old tsumami technique. The cherry blossom is Japan's de facto national flower — held as a symbol of beauty mixed with transience, and of new beginnings: school years, jobs, journeys, partings. Most of life's quiet thresholds in Japan happen under sakura.
The piece is built in a muted, slightly dusty pink rather than a bright fresh pink, so it reads adult and wearable in spring and shoulder seasons without feeling costumey. The form takes a 70 mm sweep — a generous arrangement that gives the brooch real presence on a coat lapel or jacket collar.
Made by Tsumami Kanzashi Ayano, the Matsudo workshop led by Ayano Fujii — a designated maker of Chiba Prefecture's traditional craft of Edo tsumami kanzashi.
