Sori Yanagi, 1975. A vision for Japanese tableware.

A revival of Yanagi's original design. In its truest form.

Paired with a blue-and-white pattern inspired by the swirling Naruto whirlpools, the design suggests Yanagi's attempt to create a modern interpretation of this traditional form.

This series marked a significant exception to Yanagi's philosophy that "form itself is the true pattern."
It was the first time he deliberately added a decorative motif, believing this particular design warranted it.
As a result, the collection also met the market's demand for patterned ceramics at the time.
Historically, this patterned version evolved since its 1975 debut and was most recently known as the "Washokki Marumon" series for over a decade before being discontinued.

It began in 1975. The legendary Sori Yanagi designed a series of tableware intended for daily life.
His very first dedicated to the art of Japanese cuisine.

As time passed, its form drifted from the original with shifts in production. But the spirit of the design endured.

In 2022, we brought it back to life. Guided by Yanagi's initial philosophy, empowered by Miyama's manufacturing technology, and under the full supervision of the Yanagi Industrial Design Institute, the masterpiece was reborn.

A beautifully functional set for the ritual of preparing and serving tea. A thoughtful pairing of form and utility.
